her legs have grown so long.

she glows. her words dance at the tip of her tongue. full of stories & questions & commentary.

his smile radiates with a small dimple carved out of his left cheek. kissable with each eye catch.

he giggles & loves. plays frisbee & kicks a ball with such poignant intelligence & strength.

>> these kids move my heart. my life. cause breath to leave these lungs with quick exhales and filled with a fresh lavender scent of the day.

an adventure to monterey followed by an adventure to pismo beach.

hiking adventures. coastal adventures. filled with friendship and love and thanksgiving.

>> followed by an adventure across the country.

NY is home for the summer.

fresh strawberry pies. organic gardens rich with lettuce, basil, radishes, carrots, onions, beans. bounty. farmer’s markets all over the county to fill in the garden gaps while we wait for more to grow.

slow paced life. cautious of the amish in their horse & buggies. watching corn mature in the fields surrounding our home.

lightening bugs fill the air each night.

thunderstorms. the loud-clapping-banging-downpouring-God-unleashed ones. full of life.

in between toes filled with dirt. sweet little baby heads filled with memories.

>>  on the open country roads in the ultimate driving machine. windows down, roof open, music filling the fresh air with mumford & sons and griffin house and jack johnson. and God’s Not Dead… a favorite.

sitting here silently in a country kitchen. aprons hung. dishes drying on antique cast iron drying racks. cupboards filled with homemade ingredients. sleepy heads on vintage cotton. the sunrise will glisten in a few hours as i continue to count my thanksgivings regardless of how tough these past several months have been.

i am home. we are home. our hearts are here. we are precisely where God wants us… so we wait. we learn patience and Godliness in the waiting. in the “meanwhile” as God prepares our hearts for our assignment. with aching hearts, we will wait. we will be still.

changes. sweet changes that break. and break more. and break more. so we are pliable. mold-able. His. His alone.

james 1:2-18 // the Bible meets me here. verses that sit in my heart next to 1 Thessalonians 5:18… oh that we understand these trials are here to build our faith. to understand sweet Job; the bitter taste of losing it all to gain our soul and be God’s disciple as we heed to His commands.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
